Frequency of feeding activity of red king crab Paralithodes camtschaticus (Arthropoda, Decapoda) in the Barents Sea

PDFRead

Abstract. The paper presents the results of studies of feeding rhythmicity of the red king crab in the Barents Sea. The presence of circadian and monthly periodicity in feeding activity of king crab has been shown. The specified periodicity is associated with the tidal cycle. The value of the total index of fullness of crab stomach follows the heights of the tide with a small lag. The highest average daily catches of traps reflecting the high feeding activity of crab are recorded during spring tides.
