Abstract. The paper views the philosophical problem of cognition based on the religious doctrine; the difficulties and problems that prevented a person from his cognition activity from the J. Berkeley’s point of view have been defined. The analysis of the reasons of the matter’s negation has been carried out; the spirit and the soul are characterized.
