Phanerozoic weathering crusts in the alkaline massifs of the Kola region

PDFRead

Abstract. The research of the weathering crusts in the North-Eastern Baltic shield was organized in 1956 at the Geological institute of the Kola branch of Academy of Sciences of USSR by academician A.V. Sidorenko. It has resulted in developing of the largest in the world vermiculite deposit and industrial deposit of hypergene apatite in Kovdor. Based on weathering crusts' composition two stages of the crusts' formation were revealed: in the Upper Cretaceous - Paleogene (1) and Neogene (2). Now this scientific direction is getting wider theoretical and practical importance. Isotope dating of the crusts are of special interest for geodynamic construction. Nowadays the character of hypergene processes is of fundamental importance in ecology. Hypergene processes influence on stability of mining querry, on safety of tailings dumps concentration and natural water composition.
