Climate in the Precambrian and the Guron glaciation origin

PDFRead

Abstract. The paper shows that during the Archaean there was a hot (70-80°С) and acid (Ph 3-5) ocean, where many ore elements and compounds were dissolved. During the Early Proterozoic (about 2.4 Ga ago) nearly all the carbon dioxide of the dense Archaean atmosphere was associated within the carbonates, the ocean had become cool and neutral. Consequently, the earlier dissolved ore components precipitated and formed unique stratiform deposits of gold, uranium, copper and polymetals. Due to the sharp cold snap and highstand of continents the extent cover (Guron) glaciation occurred firstly for the Earth during the Early Proterozoic, being manifested on nearly all the continental shields of that time.
